Setting the sample size for a test
The sample size field is probably one of the most complex fields in the QES system and may require additional training.
The short answer is that Sample size is one of the variables that dictates how many lines are created in the results entry window when you click create tests. If the Type has the word "Batch" at the front then the number of lines is dependant on the batch quantity in the result header. If it's a percent amount then it will create X number of lines where X = Batch Qty * % value. If it is a Specific amount then that specific amount of lines will be created.

Sample Size
There are six sample size tests available in System Code Entry and all are system controlled and may not be changed by the user. These six selections will identify the range (how many) results are required (see sample size) and the nature of the data being recorded, which can either be specific results such as numbers or text, or the quantities of conforming and non conforming items or events (see Results Method)that are grouped into two basic component combinations:
Sample Size - This will define what quantity will be tested. (Batch Amount, Percent Amount or Specific Amount)
Results Method - Will values/measurements be record for each unit/sample, or will number of pass and number of fail be recorded? If values will be entered, then a criteria may be set up in Criteria Entry and linked to the test using the Link Criteria to Tests window. This provides automatic assignment of defect codes based on the value entered for the test. If the results method is pass/fail, then no automatic defect can be select by the system, but the inspector may enter one or more defect codes as desired.
Test Type | Description | System Code ID |
Batch Amt P/F | The sample size will be equal to the batch size, data entry will be done on one line as quantity passed/failed. | 3001 |
Batch Amt Values | The sample size will be equal to the batch size, data entry will be done as specific values on separate lines (will have one line per quantity in the batch) | 3002 |
Percent Amt P/F | The sample size will calculated as a percentage of the batch as defined on the test, data entry will be done on one line as quantity passed/failed. | 3003 |
Percent Amt Values | The sample size will calculated as a percentage of the batch as defined on the test, data entry will be done as specific values on separate lines (will have one line per quantity in the batch) | 3004 |
Specific Amt P/F | The sample size will be a specific quantity as defined on the test, data entry will be done on one line as quantity passed/failed. | 3005 |
Specific Amt Values | The sample size will be a specific quantity as defined on the test, data entry will be done as specific values on separate lines (will have one line per quantity in the batch) | 3006 |
Sample Amt
If the Sample Size for the test is 'Percentage', the value entered here will be used as a percentage to be multiplied times the batch size.
If the Sample Size for the test is 'Specific Amount', the value entered here will be used as a set quantity.
If the Sample Size for the test is 'Batch Amount', any value entered here will be ignored and the batch size will be used instead.
